I’m inspired daily by the textures I find throughout the world – whether it’s cobblestone streets in Paris, or beautiful silk scarves in Morocco, I look to textures + products to help me capture the perfect photos.

Traveling can be hard on the body, your health and your skin.  When you don’t have your entire collection of skin + makeup products in front of you, what are you gonna do? What do you bring, what do you leave, what do you need to buy?
There are a few tricks that I’ve learned throughout the past year while traveling, on what makeup products you should bring and what products you can leave behind.
Traveling light is a priority for me, since I hate to lug around too much. (We got places to go, kid.)  I also don’t want to look like a hot mess while traveling, either.
There’s gotta be a happy medium between looking your best, keeping your skin looking fresh + feeling smooth, and bringing the least amount of products.
So without further ado, here are 5 travel makeup tips that keep me looking + feeling fresh on the road.

1. Keep your makeup waterproof whenever possible.
I don’t care how cold it is outside, when you’re lugging around your suitcase while trying to find your gate minutes before the doors close – you’ll be sweating. And we all know that sweat + heavy makeup = disaster. I try to opt for waterproof mascara, eyeliner whenever I go anywhere, so that I don’t end up with raccoon eyes.

2. Make sure you can carry your makeup onto the plane.

There is absolutely no reason why your makeup should not be under 3 fl oz. and able to be taken onto the plane with your carry on. Opt for products, specifically foundations that are carry-on friendly and easy to use. Keeping your makeup close to you is also a good idea because you can slip your bag under your seat during your flight, and freshen up before you land.

3. Bring at least one pop of color for your lips.

Lipstick can be an absolute lifesaver. When you’ve been running around all day and don’t have time to freshen up your entire face before dinner, a bright pop of color on your lip will instantly make you look more put together. No one will ever know, and you’ll look so d-mn good in your photos.

4. If you don’t wear it everyday, leave it.

I used to bring every single kind of makeup product with me on a trip ’cause, “What if I want to wear this kind of eyeshadow one night?” Pack light whenever possible. Don’t try to bring an entire collection or a whole bunch of different shades of the same kind of product. Less is more, especially when it comes to traveling. If you’ve got three kinds of eyeliner, bring one. If you’ve got three shades of lipstick, bring one. If you have an eyeshadow palette that has several shades in one, bring that so you don’t have to mess around with a bunch of different cases.

5. Bring foundation that will protect + be good to your skin.

Caked on is never cute. I used to wear a combination of loose powder, concealer and heavy coverage foundations – but when you’re traveling, you need a simple and lightweight product that’s also multifunctional. I also don’t want to look like I sweat all my makeup off by 6 o’clock in the evening after exploring all day.
